As my “ABOUT US“ page states, I have begun to offer a limited guide service for various Northern Michigan outdoor pursuits. I’ve been taking folks hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife watching for years. Nearly all were close friends and family members that shared my passion for the outdoors and nature in general. Some pursuits are fairly simple, fishing for bluegills, for example. Go to the lake and without a whole lot of preparation you can go home with a nice mess of eating sized panfish. Squirrel hunting is another sport that really requires little planning…simply go to just about any block of oak woods, and if you can shoot straight and sit still, you can more than likely have fried squirrel for supper. Other pursuits aren’t that easy. For instance, unless you have a great lucky streak going, you need to do some homework to expect to consistently fill your turkey tag on public land in this neck of the woods. The same goes for bear hunting over bait. In the Roscommon/Missaukee county area I usually bear hunt, the hunter success rate is rarely better than one in four or five. Baiting is a pile of work, if done right. Since most people have a limited amount of time and the distance from home to the bear woods is usually quite a ways, with gas prices these days being what they are, you can spend a substantial amount of money, and an equally substantial amount of time baiting bear. Hiring an honest and knowledgeable local to set baits for you will push your potential success rate to double or triple the area average. When you only draw a tag once every four to six years, you want to improve your odds as much as possible! The nature of critters being what it is, only a liar or fool would guarantee they can produce any type of game or fish on demand, and I am neither. However, I will guarantee I will work my tail off to see that you have an enjoyable, and hopefully successful, outdoor adventure.
