Song Bird Sculptures

 

 These carvings were all done on driftwood gleaned from the Upper Peninsula shore of Lake Michigan. I assume the pieces were once parts of sawmill slabs or maybe remains of discarded lumber. It’s obviously been weathered for who knows how many decades.

These songbirds were originally sculpted in oil based clay. I then made natural latex molds of each, and cast them using a two-part epoxy resin. They were then painted with acrylic tube paints. As you can see, some are wall hangers and others are for display on a shelf or tabletop.
